Heddington Oaks provides care for people in need of moderate assistance or short-term rehabilitation, as well as Alzheimer's patients and patients with special medical needs. We provide 24-hour skilled nursing care for all residents. A medial director visits Heddington Oaks twice each week, with a nurse practitioner on-site five days a week. This routine medical care is complemented by regular visits from an ophthalmologist and podiatrist. Each unit's care is overseen by a specially trained Registered Nurse (RN). All nursing personnel receive bi-weekly training and each specialty unit receives custom training to enhance medical services for residents. Heddington Oaks currently contracts with two local hospice providers; however, residents are welcome to use their own private hospice provider.
Licensed professional therapists provide inpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapies, with stroke therapy and joint replacement rehabilitation offered to those in need. Therapy is offered seven (7) days a week, 52 weeks per year, with the exception of major holidays. Upon physician referral, our therapists evaluate each resident and develop a comprehensive rehabilitative program.
Heddington Oaks is currently the only nursing home in Peoria County area with a full-time Registered Dietitian. Our residents have nutritious choices at every meal. They may select the day's featured entree or opt for an alternative choice from a standard menu. All meals includes an entree with potato and vegetable choices. However, customized meal plans are available for each resident based on individualized needs. Dietary aids are assigned to each unit to assist with individualized meal plans. All cooks at Heddington Oaks have their Sanitation Certificate through the Peoria City/County Health Department.
Meals are available for guests or family members to dine with residents at a nominal fee.
The Activity Department's goal is to help our residents be as independent as possible. We encourage residents to participate in activities. The Activity Department offers daily activities that include exercise programs, bingo, crafts, table games, story time, movies, puzzles, and Wii. See our Activities Page for a current list of events at Heddington Oaks. Periodically, staff will arrange outings for residents for shopping, sporting events, restaurant dining, and Christmas activities.
Our Social Services staff is available seven days a week to help residents and their families adjust to issues and changes in their lives. In addition to counseling residents, Social Services facilitates referrals to outside agencies, social history assessments and annual updates, family counseling opportunities, and interventions as needed. The department also facilitates a Residents' Advisory Board and family support group to provide feedback to staff regarding residents' care.
