Yesterday evening the Peoria County Board approved Peoria County’s budget for fiscal year 2023, which is January 1-December 31, 2023.
Highlights include:
• No property tax increase
• Fully funded Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (pension) obligations
• Allocation of American Rescue Plan Act Funds and reserve funds for the construction of a new Health and Human Services building. No bond debt is planned to be issued to build this facility. More information on this project will be available at the groundbreaking ceremony in mid-November of this year.
“The approved budget sends a strong signal to our residents that Peoria County remains fiscally sound, while still progressing forward with needed infrastructure improvements,” said Andrew A. Rand, Peoria County Board Chairman. “As evidenced by the robust discussions in our committees leading up to last night’s board meeting, board members, county-wide elected officials, and all team members take their responsibility to be good stewards of taxpayer money seriously. This budget does not raise property taxes, fully funds our pension obligations, and still allows for growth in key service areas.”
The budget, in its proposed format, is available to view online at https://www.peoriacounty.org/395/Budget-Information. Changes brought forth during last night’s meeting, most noticeably reducing the general fund levy to match the increase in the Veterans Assistance Commission levy, will be reflected in the coming days.
